But I would like to take a moment to thank Edward Gorey. He was and forever will be my favorite artist. I have enjoyed his work ever since I first discovered it on the cover of my Anthony Monday mysteries. Gorey was an artist of unconceivable measure because he took tragedy, terror and darkness, things which are held in common by us all and turned them into humor and whim. So for that I thank him, I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Gorey about 9 years ago in a little book store in Chatham and he was gentle and nice to a little girl who just liked to look at his pictures. No one has ever understood my love for Gorey but I know whom ever reads this shares this very special affection for his work. Thank you ~Melody Zagami LIfe is a tragedy for those who feel. And a comedy for those who think. ~chinese fortune
